Daily Journal – Apr 28, 2017

This is my 40th journal.
Today is another day of CA training for Identity Governance. Because I have never done any proper implementation with the Identity Governance, the training course was a little hard to follow. The way I learn new things is be applying it to situation and then draw lessons from there. Pure theory or even combined with labs doesn’t really boost my understanding but it’s a start.
Either way, later at night, I met up with my friends to watch Fast and Furious 8 again. I had previously watched it last week with another friend.
Before the movie, my friends and I went to have dinner and did some shopping. I bought a sweat pants, some undergarments as well as a plain T-shirt from Uniqlo. Generally, now, I prefer buying things from Uniqlo because they are decently priced and have a wide variety. The quality are also of acceptable standards.
It’s getting late now. So…
Here I conclude my journal for today.

Daily Journal – Apr 26, 2017

This is my 38th journal.

Today, in the morning, I was actually focused on trying out how to customize and set Exchange Mailbox protocols via Policy XPress in CA Identity Manager. I combined it with some target permission in the portal to try out some stuff and clear doubt. By about 1245, I was mostly done and the support ticket with CA was closed.

We went for lunch at around 1400 because my colleagues, some of them, were busy. Luckily for me, I had some bread that help me to last until then.

We came back at around 1430 and got back to work.

Then I continued to work on the Kong guide, mostly to fix formatting issues.

But my primarily focus was to draw out the ideas that I had for the Kong management portal. My company hired a new person for the purpose of doing user interfaces and so my ideas are meant for him to start from. Took me quite a while before I had some basic drawings, which I did mostly on my iPad.

I left office at around 1805.

Upon reaching my station, I made my way to a nearby mall and bought some mouthwashes as I need to replenish them.

Upon reaching home, I just spend time on youtube, had dinner and still chilling now.

Here I conclude my journal for today.

Daily Journal – Apr 25, 2017

This is my 37th journal.

Today was the second day of CA training for the Identity Portal. However, as I mentioned in my journal yesterday, I already had some experience with the Identity Portal, therefore when I went to do the remaining lab sessions, I was able to finish them quickly. By lunch, I was already done with all the lab sessions.

So I spend the remaining time tinkering with my Apple Watch, trying to get the Auto Unlock to work but couldn’t. I also went to finish up on the Kong Administration Guide.

At about 6.30, I went on to follow up on some emails before leaving office to have my first dinner.

Then I went to get some probiotics before making my way home. That’s when I have my second round of dinner.

Watched the last episode of 24 Legacy and various YouTube Videos.

My mom also just came back from Japan with a whole bunch of goods bought. It’s just insane with the amount of things she bought.

Well, it’s time I call it a night too.

Here I conclude my journal for today.

Daily Journal – Apr 24, 2017

This is my 36th journal.

Today is the first day of the week and I have a training session for the CA Identity Portal that took the whole day.

However, during my work, implementing the CA Identity Manager/Portal solution for my customer, I have already been exposed to quite a fair bit of the portal. I know my way around it. In fact, there were some things that I discovered independently as a result of trying to solve business problems.

Since I already knew quite a fair bit, in order to maximize my time, I was actually doing some other things like preparing the Kong Administration Guide and also surfing the net.

Yesterday, my fitbit Charge HR decided to just die on me. It was just a few days shy of it being one year old. Anyway, I already have the intention to replace it with something I feel is better. And that is Apple Watch.

I always wanted the Nike Apple Watch with the Black/Green strap. So today’s net surfing was actually me checking out some stuff about Apple Watch and also trying to decide if I want to use Apple Pay going forward. I also intended to use the apple watch to do auto-unlock of my MacBook.

So after the training session, uploaded the draft guide to the company’s NAS, I made my way to Jurong Point, had a quick bite and then bought the watch.

Upon reaching home, had a quick shower and started setting up. Enabled Apple Pay with my debit card. And then I had to make some changes to my Apple ID’s authentication method. Now I’m just waiting for my Apple Watch to update to watchOS 3.2.

Here I conclude my journal for today.

Daily Journal – Apr 23, 2017

This is the 35th journal and it marks the end of week 16.

I will start off by saying that I was feeling like crap for three-quarter of the day. It was because I was down with a cold since Wednesday. Friday and Saturday are actually worse for me. I self-medicated in hope to bring the symptoms under control and I continued my vitamin supplements.

This morning, I spent sometime playing games like Plague Inc. I was trying to win the game with the Necroa Virus but can’t win because the disease was discovered before it could spread throughout the world. Turns out I needed to include the Creationist Gene before I start the game but I don’t have that. I wanted to play more rounds with other diseases like viruses, prion and bacteria to unlock the Creationist Gene but I got bored. Part of me was having difficult concentrating with my body aching all over.

Then I had breakfast and went to play Sniper Elite 4. Barely even got through half of the mission when I decided I had enough. Brushed, flossed and rinsed, then I went to take a quick nap.

Woke up around 3.15pm.

Had lunch, surf the net for a while before deciding to go for a jog. I was hoping that the jogging can somehow counteract my lack of activities for the past week or so. Maybe also sweat out the sickness. Had to take some painkillers and decongestants. Didn’t go far.

Came back, had a shower and then I decided to use my MacBook for other purpose like watching youtube videos, write this journal and hopefully do some light work. Plan out the rest of the week also.

Here I conclude my journal for today.

Daily Journal – Apr 21, 2017

This is the 34th journal.

I will keep this journal short as I’m suddenly down with sinus inflammation. It started two days ago. Now, I’m just feeling super sleepy and aching all over.

For work today, it was mostly documentation

At home, I got down to fix the bugs raised by my client for my freelance work.

I just took some medication and will go to bed early.

Here I conclude my journal for today.

Daily Journal – Apr 20, 2017

It’s Thursday and this is my 33rd journal.

So what did I do today?

I arranged for a password synchronization agent test with the customer. It was scheduled for 2.30pm.

Then I went on to finalize the installation guide for Kong and got my colleague to vet through. I went for an early lunch.

I made my way to the International Business Park at around 1.30pm and reached the customer’s office at around 1.45pm.

So I sat at the lobby and chill a bit before I called the customer’s manager and got her to fetch me up.

Once I’m there, I got down to work and quickly finish the testing. All five test cases were cleared in half an hour or so. Then I went on to update the necessary documents.

I got pulled into discussion with various people but I tried my best to deflect because there are a lot of things that I can’t make a decision on.

I made my way back to office at around 3.30 and continued to update my task list and documents.

My colleague gave me feedback on the guide and so I went to fix them. At around 6.20 or so, I made my way home.

Throughout the day, I got a runny nose caused by some kind of inflammation at the back of my throat. I hope it clears up tomorrow.

Here I conclude my journal for today.

Daily Journal – Apr 19, 2017

Nearly half of the week is gone. Today it was all about Kong, primarily focusing on preparing the Setup and Installation Guide.

Later in the afternoon, there was a sync-up with my colleague and boss on the project. I was called to demonstrate some aspect of Kong. But it came out poorly prepared and articulated. All my fault really. I was having trouble forming my thoughts and do the demo. Got scolded by boss and so I tried again. Slightly better but still crap.

So how can I improve on it?

It’s simple really.

Plan out ahead before the actual day on what needs to presented. That means that I need to know the context, what’s the business requirement and then prepare the presentation such that we make the product fit the business requirement, not the other way around.

Anyway, after the presentation and sync-up, I continued to update the guide and then do more discovery of what is needed.

I left office at around 6.40 or so. Made it home by 7.30 and had a shower. I went on to watch Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders. Then had dinner and here I am writing the journal while watching The Expanse.

Here I conclude my journal for today.

Daily Journal – Apr 18, 2017

Tuesday and it’s work day. First order of business was to try out a solution suggested by the CA Support on how to enable or disable Exchange Mailbox protocols through the Identity Manager.

Then I also check with my manager on the draft email that he updated for me to clarify on some things. For this specific item, we actually went back and forth until we got a final draft and sent it out to the customer. During the process, I actually had to go dig out the functional specifications and user requirement specification to determine what was said and signed off to ensure we are on the right track. There were cases where we found that we were shooting at ourselves had to quickly rephrase our email responses. I would say it’s a unique experience. Side note, my manager is actually not Singapore but rather still in Taiwan. He’s there for a week with his wife. And he will only be back next Tuesday.

Also, the customer’s Active Directory Application Owner got back to me that he got the files, and will perform update of the password sync agent before he will let me know when to do the test.

Later in the day, I synced up with my colleague, who was the lead for another project. I’m involved in it for a specific area and I had to ensure that I know whats is missing, what’s going on and what needs to be done.

During the sync up, in all honesty, my years of working experience doesn’t seem to improve my decision making, ability to think of business operations, see the world the customer do, etc. I’m still thinking like a bloody, fresh graduate programmer who is perpetually stuck in silo mode. I really need to change that aspect. I feel like I should have come to this stage last year.

Then I went to update the document for Kong on how to do clustering. There are more that needs to be done and I should focus on that tomorrow.

After work, I went to eat dinner with my friend and catch Fast and Furious 8. I only managed to reached home at around 2240. After a shower, I’m already behind schedule on my journal.

Here I conclude my journal for today.
